AEROSPAIN, a pillar of ACTRIS’ AERONET-EUROPE

UVA and AEMET make part of the Center for Aerosol Remote Sensing (CARS), which is a central facility of the Aerosols, Clouds and Trace Gases research infrastructure (ACTRIS). Together with the University of Lille (France), they constitute AERONET-Europe, the European branch of NASA’s AERONET network.

ACTRIS is the infrastructure for Aerosols, Clouds and Trace gases observation in Europe, that aims at providing long-term and high-quality observations of these atmospheric components to foster research in atmospheric composition, air quality and climate forcing, long-term evaluation of climate change and policy effectiveness.
AERONET-Europe is part of the aerosol remote sensing within ACTRIS. It provides calibration, traceability, training and testing of new developments (instrumental, algorithms). Currently 40 sites are calibrated by AEROSPAIN, plus the reference instruments for the Chinese branch CARSNET.
